VB36 Master Bowlturner Lathe
As much as my Poolewood Euro 2000 lathe was very good and top in its class………… after using the VB I have to say that it is unsurpassed and without doubt the ultimate in wood lathes. The VB is a pleasure to use, besides the engineering excellence nothing has been overlooked, even down to the smallest detail.

Product warning Once you have tried the VB36 you will immediately find the only problem with this lathe – switching it off is very, very hard to do - in fact you may just keep turning until your wood store is empty.

For the record I have no connection with Hegner. However my recommendation for what it is worth, is that that you contact Hegner for information on their VB36 E-Mail : sales@hegner.co.uk – but be warned you may never mow the lawn, wash up or ever watch television again!!.

The left hand image below shows a piece of spalted beech that I end turned. This is small by comparison to the maximum swing over the toolrest beam of 36” (915mm) and a massive 92” (2340mm) over the floor with the bed removed. This piece of Beech incidentally can be seen in its finished form on the gallery page ~ and won the woodturning competition at Alexandra Palace on Feb 17th -19th this year – 2006. Turning such large pieces of wood is only possible with VB’s precision bearings which unlike roller type bearings in general lathe use will last a lifetime. The bearings float on a film of lubricant so no metal to metal contact is made.

The right hand image details the deep hollowing rest which is excellent and can be easily adjusted to suit most applications.
